About the Position

Responsibilities

• Assist in complex cardiac surgeries, including serving as a first assistant and performing endoscopic vein harvesting using the Maquet-Getinge system.
• Manage comprehensive care for ICU and cardiovascular surgical patients, including rounding and evaluations across the CVICU, hospital floors, and outpatient clinic.
• Develop and implement detailed plans of care and follow-up based on diagnostic outcomes and patient needs.
• Order, interpret, and evaluate laboratory and diagnostic tests to guide clinical decision-making.
• Perform bedside procedures appropriate for the cardiothoracic patient population.
• Order medications and write prescriptions in accordance with facility policy and state regulations.
• Collaborate closely with surgeons, intensivists, and other healthcare professionals in a collegial, fast-paced environment.
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation and demonstrate expert clinical judgment while operating independently under physician supervision.

Qualifications & Credentialing

• Education: Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies is required.
• Certification: Active PA-C certification by the NCCPA is required.
• Experience: Minimum of 3+ years of experience in cardiac or cardiovascular surgery and ICU patient management, or equivalent experience with endoscopic vein harvesting and first assisting.
• Licensure: Unrestricted medical staff membership with appropriate practice privileges and an unrestricted Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) license with full prescriptive authority.
• Documentation: A recent NPDB Self Query Report (conducted within the last 30 days) is required at the time of presentation.
• Certifications: Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• Compliance: Must be eligible to provide reimbursable services for Medicare and Medicaid; no current or prior sanctions or exclusions from HHS/OIG or the GSA List of Excluded Individuals and Entities.
• Additional Requirements: Candidates must not have applied directly to this health system previously to be eligible for consideration through this agency.
